Cleft lip puppy – The Story of Ms Donna
Ms Donna was born with a cleft lip (not cleft palate) early in the morning on June 19, 2016. She has a split lip were the two sides of the upper lip do not properly fuse in. She can’t create suction to nurse like her siblings.
We are feeding her with a home made formula every 2 hours. She’s a little fighter and is thriving and gaining weight. Puppies like Donna usually don’t make it. They can nurse and either starve to death or get put down. They also aspirate milk and get pneumonia and other infections. We are doing everything we can to save little Ms Donna and it’s kicking our butt 🙂 Our puppy alarm goes off every 2 hours to feed her. She learned how to swallow drop by drop from a small syringe with a rubber nipple 🙂 She can get surgery when she’s older. You can watch part 2 of her story here.
