Biewer Terriers are always born with floppy ears. The ears start to stand up as the puppies get older. The process of taping Biewer Puppy ears can seem daunting at first, but with a little practice and patience, you can help your Puppy achieve the desired upright ear look. During stressful times, on very hot days, and also during the teething period, Biewer’s ears tend to flop down.
Before you start to tape Biewer Puppy ears, make sure you have clear medical tape, a pair of scissors, and clean hands.
It’s also essential to ensure your Biewer Terrier’s ears are clean and dry before you start. Cleaning your dog’s ears with some rubbing alcohol will help remove any grease, dirt, or debris that may be on them and ensure that the tape sticks well.
To begin taping, cut a piece of clear medical tape to the appropriate length. The length of the tape depends on the size of your Biewer Terrier’s ears. You want the tape to be long enough to cover the ear from the base to the tip, but not so long that it wraps around the ear.
Next, gently pull your Biewer Terrier’s ear up and out, so it stands upright. Hold the ear in place with one hand while placing the tape along the back of the ear with your other hand. Be sure to smooth the tape down to ensure there are no wrinkles or creases.
Once the tape is in place, gently press the edges of the tape onto the ear to secure it in place. If you notice any wrinkles or creases, gently lift the tape and reposition it until it’s smooth.
It’s essential to change the tape regularly to ensure it stays in place and doesn’t irritate your Biewer Terrier’s ears. If the tape becomes loose or dirty, remove it and replace it with a fresh piece.
